Google Contacts + WhatsApp: Auto-Save, Import, and Sync
March 9, 2026 · 5 min read
WASBOT connects to Google Contacts so your WhatsApp contacts are automatically saved to your Google account. No manual copying, no lost leads. Link your Google account once, and every new WhatsApp contact gets saved automatically.
Why Google Contacts?
Google Contacts is the backbone of your contact management:
- Accessible everywhere — Phone, laptop, tablet, any device signed into Google
- Syncs with your phone — Contacts appear in your phone's address book automatically
- Status delivery — Contacts saved to Google (and synced to your phone) can see your WhatsApp status, which means more views on your posts
- Backup — Your contacts are safe in the cloud even if you lose your phone
Linking a Google Account
Step 1: Go to the Contacts Page
Navigate to Contacts in your dashboard. Under Account Setup, you'll see the Google Accounts section.
Step 2: Click "Link Account"
Click the Link Account button. A Google OAuth popup will appear.
Step 3: Sign In and Authorize
- Sign in to the Google account where you want contacts saved
- Review the permissions WASBOT is requesting (Contacts access)
- Click Allow
The popup closes and your Google account appears in the linked accounts list, showing your name and email.
Step 4: Assign to a Session
After linking, go to Session Contact Settings on the right panel:
- Find the session you want to connect
- Select your Google account from the dropdown
- Enable Auto-Save for that session
Now every new WhatsApp contact on that session will be automatically saved to your Google account.
Importing Contacts from Google
Already have contacts in Google that you want to use with WASBOT? You can import them:
- Go to the Import Contacts section at the bottom of the Contacts page
- Click Import from Google
- Select which linked Google account to import from
- WASBOT pulls your Google contacts and adds them to your contact database
Imported contacts are counted separately in your stats as "Imported" contacts.
Multiple Google Accounts
You can link multiple Google accounts to WASBOT. This is useful if:
- You have separate personal and business Google accounts
- You're managing contacts for different clients
- You want different WhatsApp sessions saving to different Google accounts
Each session can be assigned a different Google account. Session 1 saves to your business Google, Session 2 saves to your client's Google.
How Auto-Save Works
Once linked and enabled, the auto-save flow is:
- Someone messages your WhatsApp number
- WASBOT checks if the number is already saved
- If unsaved, WASBOT saves it to your linked Google account
- The contact name comes from your Naming Configuration (see the naming configs guide)
- Google syncs the contact to your phone automatically
The contact then appears in your phone's address book — which means they can now see your WhatsApp status posts. This is the key advantage: more saved contacts = more status views = more reach.
Unlinking a Google Account
If you need to disconnect a Google account:
- Click the more options menu on the account card
- Select Unlink
- Confirm the action
Sessions using that account will stop auto-saving until you assign a new Google account. Contacts already saved are not deleted from Google.
Troubleshooting
"Link Account" button doesn't work
- Make sure pop-ups are allowed for the WASBOT domain
- Try a different browser if the OAuth popup is blocked
Contacts not appearing in Google
- Check that auto-save is enabled for the session
- Verify the correct Google account is assigned
- New contacts may take a few minutes to sync to your phone
Google account shows "disconnected"
- Google OAuth tokens can expire — click Link Account again to re-authorize
- This doesn't affect already-saved contacts
Requirements
- Available on all paid plans
- Google account with Contacts access
- Pop-ups must be allowed for OAuth flow
Getting Started
Go to Contacts → Google Accounts → Link Account. Connect your Google account, assign it to your session, enable auto-save, and watch your contact list grow automatically.
