How to Bulk-Save Hundreds of Unsaved WhatsApp Contacts

February 16, 2026 · 4 min read

You've been using WhatsApp for years. Hundreds of people have messaged you. But how many of those contacts are actually saved? If you check, the answer is probably less than half.

Unsaved contacts can't see your status updates. They're invisible leads sitting in your chat history. WASBOT's bulk detection feature finds them all and saves them to Google Contacts in one operation.

Find and Save Hundreds of Unsaved WhatsApp Contacts

Requirements

Before running bulk detection, you'll need:

  1. Google account linked — contacts are saved to Google Contacts
  2. Contact config set up — naming format for saved contacts (prefix, suffix, label)
  3. Contact saving enabled — toggle on in the Contacts page

First time? You need to configure your contact settings before bulk detection will work. Follow the auto-save contacts setup guide to link your Google account and set your naming format — it takes under 2 minutes.

Just linked your WhatsApp? Wait at least 5 minutes after connecting your device before running bulk detection. WhatsApp needs time to sync your chat history to WASBOT's servers. If you run detection too early, you'll get fewer results than expected.

History Sync Limits

Bulk detection can only find contacts from chats that WhatsApp syncs to WASBOT. The amount of history you get depends on your plan:

PlanHistory Sync WindowNotes
TrialNo history syncOnly contacts from new messages after linking
Basic30 daysRecovers recent contacts
Premium90 daysBest value — catches contacts from up to 6 months of activity
Pro120 daysDeep history for power users
Enterprise180 daysMaximum recovery window

The longer the sync window, the more unsaved contacts bulk detection can find. If you're on Trial, you'll only pick up contacts who message you after you connect — upgrade to at least Basic to unlock history sync.

How Bulk Detection Works

The process is straightforward:

1. Detect Unsaved Contacts

From the Dashboard

Go to the Contacts page in your dashboard and click "Detect Unsaved Contacts."

From WhatsApp

You can also trigger detection directly from WhatsApp by sending this command to your WASBOT number:

get unsaved

WASBOT will scan your history and reply with the results right in the chat.

Either way, WASBOT scans your synced WhatsApp chat history and cross-references every contact against what's already saved. It identifies:

  • Named contacts — people with a WhatsApp display name or business name
  • Unnamed contacts — people without a display name (they'll get a placeholder like "WA Contact 1")

2. Review the Summary

You'll see a breakdown:

  • Total unsaved contacts found
  • How many have display names vs. unnamed
  • How many slots are available on your current plan

3. Confirm and Save

Click "Yes" to confirm. WASBOT processes the contacts in batches:

  1. Each contact is verified as still active on WhatsApp (inactive numbers are skipped)
  2. Contacts are created in your linked Google Contacts account
  3. Named contacts get their WhatsApp display name; unnamed ones get a numbered placeholder
  4. Progress updates show you how many have been saved in real-time

The entire operation runs in the cloud. Your phone isn't involved.

What Happens to Generic Names

When WASBOT saves a contact without a display name, it creates a placeholder like "WA Contact 1 Wasbot" (using your configured naming format).

Here's the smart part: if that person later messages you and their WhatsApp profile now has a display name, WASBOT automatically updates their Google Contact with the real name. No manual cleanup needed.

Contact Limits

Bulk detection respects your subscription tier's contact limit:

PlanMax Saved Contacts
Trial500
Basic5,000
Premium20,000
Pro50,000

If detection finds more contacts than your plan allows, WASBOT will save up to your limit and let you know how many were skipped.

Combining With Auto-Save

Bulk detection and auto-save work together:

  • Auto-save captures new contacts going forward (from incoming messages)
  • Bulk detection recovers contacts from your past chat history

Run bulk detection once to catch up on old contacts, then let auto-save handle everything from that point on.
